I made a huge mistake.

For the past several years, I used generative AI to create images to post alongside my original writing, which has and always will be 100% AI-free. I enjoy using visual art to enhance my storytelling, but I want to do it ethically. Generative AI is unequivocally NOT ETHICAL, nor is it art. 

Instead, I’ve resolved to start using public domain art pieces that fit the theme of my writing. That way I’m not stealing, and I can always apply the correct credit to the real human who created it, even if they’ve been dead for hundreds of years. 

At my most vain and self-absorbed, I’d like to think that someone will rip my writing from a public domain website and quote me one day. That’s why I’ve prepaid for the millerwiller.com domain for the next 1000 years. After that, we’ll play it by ear and gauge interest. 

I don’t suffer under the illusion that it’ll keep me alive, but at least my words will persist. If I can’t live by what I’ve said, then what is the point of it all?
